Event Details

Honley-based charity, River Holme Connections is improving the River Holme catchment for people and wildlife. They’re making it easier for people to visit the river by improving access and making the environment better by removing litter, controlling non-native invasive species, including Japanese knotweed and Himalayan balsam and re-planting areas with native species and trees. River Holme Connections is also educating young people about our rivers, the life they support and how we can look after them.

As part of this work, volunteers meet every third Saturday of the month, from 10am-12noon for the Third Saturday Work Party. Their work and the location of that work, usually changes each month, so there’s something for everyone to get involved in, whether it’s planting flowers of trees, picking litter or bashing balsam – which even younger children can get involved with.

All welcome

They’re a friendly bunch and anyone is welcome to join in (during Covid they do need to keep an eye on numbers though, so please see the website for details). It doesn’t matter how much time you can spare – even it if’s half an hour, every little helps. There’s usually refreshments on the go and protective equipment and tools provided. Unfortunately, while Covid is still an issue they can’t provide refreshments, and, if possible, people are asked to bring their own gardening gloves.

Please  make sure you wear old clothing and suitable footwear.

Vitis the River Holme Connections website to find out where they are and what they’re doing this month and book your place.
