Skilled and Conscientious
Fay is not your average gas engineer. Of course she has all the usual qualifications and accreditations you’d expect from a skilled and conscientious gas engineer; she’s Gas Safe Registered, a licenced waste carrier and is accredited to work with appliances up to 70kw. That pretty much covers all residential and small business work, but if you’re in doubt just ask. Fay, however, also has a huge amount of experience and knowledge. She started out as an apprentice with British Gas in the late 90s and now has more than 20 years’ industry experience.
Oh, and she’s one of only a handful of female gas engineers in the industry.
“Being female was never an issue with my colleagues. All anyone in the industry is bothered about is whether or not you’re good at your job. Although, when I first started, I used to get a few startled looks from customers when they opened the door and saw me standing there,” said Fay.
“They soon realised that being male or female has nothing to do with how well you can do this job. In fact, many are now loyal customers,” she added.
Independent gas engineer
Having worked for so many years with British Gas, Fay is now enjoying the independence of working alone. The biggest benefit, in her eyes, is the freedom to spend more time with clients.
“I don’t have targets or cram lots of jobs into one day. Instead, I can spend as much time as I need to get the job done well. People appreciate that extra care and attention I can offer,” said Fay.

From boilers to gas pipes
As well as looking after all your standard gas appliances, like boilers, gas fires, cookers and ranges, Fay can turn her hand to anything gas related. In fact, any gas-related job up to 70kw is right up her street.
Installing boilers, radiators and thermostatic valves, as well as servicing appliances are traditional bread and butter jobs. These days, however, Fay finds herself installing more and more smart controls as people want to switch their appliances and heating on and off from their phone.
