A Love of Art
They say your heart is in your home and Honley’s Ben Sadler has been pouring his heart and soul into his.
Plasterer Ben has mastered the Italian technique of Venetian plastering to create state of the art, contemporary walls that bring you the ‘wow’ factor, day and night.
Think marble, think luxury, imagine gold and copper hues snaking through rich, deep tones. Think textured surfaces, think contemporary and you are halfway to imagining Ben’s artwork.
No two walls are ever the same. Ben creates one-off mood boards to meet his exacting standards and his client’s personal tastes.
Microcement and Marmorino Plaster
Forget regular plastering. There are two aspects to Ben’s feature walls and decorative finishes. To Ben it’s a case of using Italian products to create Microcement or Marmorino plaster finishes.
To you and I, Microcement is a seamless bathroom finish meaning no tile or grout marks, and Marmorino plaster is a marble effect feature wall.
Ben began plastering 16 years ago, but after discovering Venetian plastering, he upped his tools and his trade.
“When I first heard about Venetian plastering, I looked it up online. The more I looked, the more I became obsessed with it.
“I couldn’t take my eyes off the colourful walls and patterns. It totally blew my mind. I couldn’t think of anything else. I was sold there and then,” he said.
Ben is qualified in using the Italian products, which include Volare, Infinito, Sharki, 3D liquid metals and Plasma, which each help to create a unique finish. The method involves a complex formula of both maths and art to reach the right consistency and colour combinations.
Microcement is used to create both rough and smooth finishes in bathrooms and is suitable for wet rooms. It can also be used to create decorative downstairs flooring.
Ben uses Marmorino plastering to create one off feature walls in a variety of finishes.
“I use Italian products which are marble based in that they contain crushed marble in the plaster,” he said.
“Walls must be primed and tinted, coloured, waxed, it all depends on the finish. Every wall is unique and depends on individual tastes and styles. I create sample mood boards to help customers choose and to give them a better idea of what can be created within their homes.
“I tend to use medium Marmorino plaster because it’s bang on trend and lends itself to more variety in the finish, including a textured finish, coral patterns and ‘broken’ / natural effects.”
A Self-Confessed Perfectionist
Ben often uses stencils to help create his patterns. He can create feature walls for just about any room in the house. His work takes him into people’s homes, as well as restaurants and bars.
“Venetian plastering is a real statement, a ‘wow’ factor,” said Ben. “It’s a feature wall that really pops out. I am a perfectionist. I don’t stop until I am happy, and my customers absolutely love it.
“The walls I create are one of a kind.”
