An accredited strength and conditioning coach, Josh started his career working with professional athletes. Now, he uses the same approach to help everyone, from 16-year-old future Olympian hopefuls to 76-year-olds wanting to live a fitter life.
“It doesn’t matter who you are, the principles surrounding health and fitness are the same. What changes is the way you apply them to each individual so they can achieve their goals and, importantly, have fun! After all, if people enjoy doing what they’re doing, they’re more likely to do it,” said Josh.
Who needs a strength and conditioning coach?
Josh’s clients come in all shapes and sizes, ages and abilities. Having started his career as a strength and conditioning coach for professional sports teams, including the England U18 rugby team, Josh still works with professional athletes to improve their strength and fitness in a way that helps them reach their performance goals.
Yet, many of Josh’s clients have much more moderate fitness goals, with some having never set foot in a gym before. Josh said:
“Clients are often nervous when they first visit the gym, thinking it will be full of experienced body-builders. When they realise that actually it’s a friendly, sociable environment full of people just like them, they love it.”
A Taylor-ed approach
All clients receive the same holistic approach from Josh. His programmes take into account current fitness and activity levels and lifestyle, including nutritional habits, likes and dislikes, sleep and work patterns.
The aim is to create a fun training programme that combines nutrition and good sleeping habits with a fitness programme, which improves a person’s physical and mental health.
“Adherence is the key to achieving fitness goals. By building a programme into someone’s lifestyle, and making it enjoyable, it means that they’re more likely to stick with it,” explained Josh. “Education is key too. I see my job as giving people the knowledge, confidence and understanding to maintain a healthy active lifestyle, that makes them feel better and fitter.”
