Remember Father’s Day!

by | Jun 3, 2021 | News

Father’s Day is Sunday 20th June:

Did you know that Father’s Day is 111 years old?

It was started in Spokane, USA in 1910 by Sonora Louise Dodds. Following the death of their mother, Sonora and her siblings were brought up by their father. They thought he deserved the same recognition as mums, so ‘invented’ Father’s Day.

Today, it’s still a great reason to say a big thank you to our dads for being everything from our unpaid taxi driver to sports coach, mentor, friend and carer.

In Honley there are some lovely ways to spoil your dad, with Father’s Day gift ideas for all budgets.

Pick of the Father’s Day gifts

Here’s our pick of Father’s Day gifts that you can take advantage of without even leaving the village. They start from pocket money prices too.

Taylors Foodstore

The ‘Arrods of Honley is definitely the place to head for a choice of great Father’s Day gifts. There are even Father’s Day gifts for under £5, with Lindt Lindor Balls, or a 360g bar of Toblerone costing £3.99 each. Over 18s can also treat dad to a 10 pack of San Miguel for £8, or a Gift Pack of 3 Nook beers for just £9.99.

If Dad is a whisky connoisseur, then Taylors have more than a dozen single malt whiskies for you to choose from at various prices.

Then there’s our favourite: the HappySnack Dad’s Hamper! Especially created for Father’s Day, the HappySnack Dad’s Hamper has everything you need to make your dad’s day special. It includes Magic Rock beer, homemade Arancini, Happy Belly scotch egg, and Angela’s Millionaire slice. All for £10!

Zebra

If you love quirky gifts, cards or keepsake gifts, then Zebra is the place for you. You’ll adore browsing the store and you’ll be pleasantly surprised at the prices. With everything from pocket money priced keyrings to custom-designed jewellery for men, you’ll be spoiled for choice at Zebra.

Our favourites include the themed mugs from £5.99, character bottle stoppers at £9.99 and the delightful sports-themed cufflinks at £9.95.

Well North Physiotherapy

If you’re looking for a more ‘experience’ type of gift then why not treat dad to a sports massage at Well North Physiotherapy. Sports massages start at £30 for a 30-minute treatment and are a great way to help him to relax and get rid of any little niggles.

Honley Barber

Is your dad still recovering from his lockdown haircut, or sporting a lockdown beard that birds are considering nesting in? Then why not treat him to a traditional experience at Honley Barbers? Their prices start from just £5 for a beard shave and hot towel experience, or a beard trim and shape up for £7 and haircuts for just £10. It’s worth asking about their amazing flaming hair removal techniques too!

Meals and more

Of course, there are plenty of places in Honley for you to take dad on his special day. Choose from coffee and cake at Wired, a pint at The Allied, or even a pint and curry at The Foresters Arms and Blue Tiger. Alternatively, you could treat dad to cocktails at Krafty followed by tapas at Punch, and thanks to lockdown easing, there’s space to eat indoors or outdoors at Jacob’s Well.

However you decide to spoil your dad on Father’s Day, remember to tell him how much he means to you! Happy Father’s Day to all those amazing dads out there!
