Home and business security systems
Alan Donkersley established C.A.T. (Customised Alarm Technology) Alarms in 1993, and the eyes of his black cat logo have kept watch over homes and business premises ever since.
C.A.T. Alarms is still a family-run business with Alan, Liam and Anne-marie keen to maintain the friendly, personal service that has seen the black cat peer out from the white and blue bell boxes throughout Yorkshire and beyond.
Smart alarm systems
Over the past 30 years, the security industry has seen huge changes in technology.
“We design security systems around your home or business needs both now, and in the future. Our hybrid wired and wireless systems can grow with your property, so if you have an extension we just link the required security devices to the existing system,” said Alan.
As well as the conventional alarms, customers are opting for smart security systems and updating their old systems. Controlled by an app on your smart phone, these allow you to control your home’s security system from anywhere in the world. All you need is an internet connection.
With the C.A.T. Alarms app it’s possible to view CCTV, set and turn off alarms, room lights and even your TV. It gives the impression that someone is home even when you’re lying on a beach halfway around the world.
The app also lets you know if motion has been detected and allow you to check out the CCTV footage from before, during and after the event.
And burglars beware! If you see a bell box with C.A.T.’s eyes, it will be a live security system. C.A.T. Alarms never install only dummy bell boxes.
Servicing and more
As well as installations, C.A.T. Alarms service and look after existing alarm systems, which can potentially save the home or business owner thousands of pounds.
According to Alan, it’s vital to have your home or business security system serviced regularly. It’s rare that intruders will attempt to break into an alarmed building – they prefer to stick to buildings without alarms. But keeping your security system in tip top condition, will give you confidence that it will work if needed. Regular servicing can also prevent faults from occurring, which can be more costly to homeowners.
Did you know that you can be fined for disturbing the peace with a faulty alarm? You’ll also be liable for call out charges if the police are summoned to disable your faulty alarm. Add the cost of repairing the fault and the final bill can be very unpleasant.
Specialists in security
While C.A.T. Alarms are experts in designing and installing alarm systems, for specialist equipment they work in partnership with other security experts.
“We want to make sure customers have access to the best advice and most appropriate security equipment for their needs. When it comes to specialist kit, such as CCTV, door locks and jammers, we work in partnership with people who are experts in these fields, including an ex-crime prevention officer,” said Alan.
A friendly, local service
The service is friendly and personal, and Alan has known many of his customers for decades. As a result, almost all C.A.T. Alarms work comes from word of mouth.
“People trust us to give them the most appropriate security system, at a fair price. We’re transparent about how we cover the cost of equipment and our time. It’s an approach that people can understand and appreciate.”
Businesses can also benefit from the straight-talking C.A.T. Alarms approach. Many local businesses, schools and social buildings, are protected by C.A.T. Alarms security systems.
Born and bred in Honley, Alan has always been keen to give back to the local community too. When he heard that the Village Hall was planning to operate as a Covid -19 vaccination centre, he updated the security system with a higher security system allowing for communications.
