Newsagent in Honley
Holme Valley News, tucked on the corner of Westgate near the bottom zebra crossing, is a traditional newsagent, whose customers like to hold and fold their newspapers.
Owned and run by husband and wife team, David and Alison Proud, Holme Valley News stocks and delivers all your favourite national, regional and local daily and weekly newspapers. They also sell a range of children’s, consumer and specialist magazines. In fact, if there’s a special interest magazine you’d like that isn’t on display, just have a word with David and he can order it for you.
As you’d expect from a traditional newsagent, they also stock tobacco products, sweets and confectionery, stationery and greeting cards for a variety of occasions.
Your newspaper delivered
Around 8,400 newspapers and magazines are delivered each week, to addresses as far afield as Castle Hill, Hall Bower, Newsome, Farnley Tyas, Beaumont Park, Oldfield and Meltham. Between his two shops – he owns Holme Valley News in Netherton – David employs 7 car drivers and 15 paperboys and girls who deliver the news to more than 1,100 homes.
If you’d like your paper delivered to your door, pop into the shop or call David to arrange your newspaper delivery.
Subscriptions welcome
Not all shops accept subscription vouchers for newspapers, but you’ll have no problem at Holme Valley News. If you subscribe to the Examiner or one of the other regional or national papers that offer reduced rates for your loyalty, you can always redeem your vouchers at Holme Valley News.
Open (almost) every day
As newspapers are produced every morning but Christmas day, Holme Valley News opens 364 days a year. They open at 5.30am until 1pm so you can always rely on them to deliver the news to you in time for breakfast.
Need a greeting card?
David makes sure that he stocks quality greeting cards at a price that won’t make your eyes water. It’s definitely worth a look if you need a card for a special occasion.
As the shop is open every day, it’s convenient if you suddenly remember someone’s birthday or anniversary!
