For the first time, we have a dedicated barber shop in the village. Ramin owns and runs Honley Barbers at Moor Bottom by the roundabout. Look out for the traditional red, white and blue barber’s pole outside the shop.
Honley Barbers has a look that makes you feel as if you’re stepping back in time when you enter the shop. The traditional (and very comfortable) barbers chairs and vintage décor are complemented by Ramin’s traditional values. He says:
“I love what I do and believe in doing a good job. People ask why I don’t charge more, but if my customers are happy, then I’m happy and that’s what matters most.”
While Ramin employs a blend of traditional Kurdish and Turkish barber skills, (including some amazingly deft work with a flaming taper) a cut and a shave at Honley Barbers is far from old-fashioned. Indulge in a hot towel treatment or walk away with an artistically patterned head shave.
Traditional barber skills
While men, women and children are welcome at Honley Barbers, the focus is definitely on short hair and shaving. Male clients visit for the full grooming experience. From wet shaves with cutthroat razors, complete with the hot towel experience to beard trimming and even nose and ear waxing, Honley Barbers specialise in men’s hair.
An artistic finish
Most of Ramin’s clients plump for a more traditional short hair cut or graduated shave. If you’re looking for something a little more adventurous though, you’re in the right place.
Using his clippers like a paintbrush, Ramin can create intricately shaved patterns. If you have a design you’d like to emulate, simply take along a picture and Ramin will recreate the look you want.
Bringing Eastern European skills to Honley
The traditional Kurdish and Turkish barber skills used by Ramin are certainly a sight to see. Suffice it to say, the hot towel treatments aren’t the only thing raising the temperature around here. If you’re up for it, Ramin skilfully uses flaming tapers to remove fine hairs around the ear.
For such a highly trained professional, Ramin keeps his prices incredibly reasonable. If your beard is ready for a trim, or you’ve always wanted stars shaved into your hair, pop in and have a chat with Ramin the next time you’re passing.
