A Company with Dizzy Heights
When it comes to heights, company director Kevin Stephenson isn’t fazed by how high his work will take him.
After obtaining a master’s degree in chemistry and chemical engineering, and working for 10 years at the former ICI, Kevin swapped hectic full-time work in a laboratory for the great outdoors.
He initially developed Stephenson Tree Services, working part-time around a young family but soon expanded, taking over a local garden maintenance company as the owner retired. In 2015, he rebranded his company to Stephenson Trees and Landscapes Ltd.
Over the last seven years, Kevin has continued to grow his business, expanding further into commercial ground management and ensuring the tree team are the best around.
His company still retains some of the original customers.
“The initial move to tree work was a love for driving big trucks and climbing trees, and how I could get paid for it. This also gave me more time with my kids,” said Kevin.
A Cut Above the Rest
As Arboricultural Association (AAAc) approved contractors, not to mention Safecontractor approved and Trustmark registered, the team are experts when it comes to cutting trees and hedges. Their services also include domestic landscaping, fencing and whole site clearance for commercial development.
Kevin said: “AAAc is the benchmark for government organisations, such as Kirklees Council to use. It’s the standard regulator for contractor selection or recommendation for works. It means all our staff are fully trained in what they do and proves our health and safety compliance.”
As well as carrying out maintenance for several schools in the Kirklees and Calderdale district areas, Stephenson Trees and Landscapes Ltd also holds contracts with universities and has celebrity clients throughout West Yorkshire.
Kevin said: “We cover just about anything and everything when it comes to tree and hedge cutting and landscaping. We offer our customers the whole package.
“Come rain or shine, it’s about being punctual and reliable, being there when your customers want you to be there and doing a good job.”
From Stump Grinding to Landscape Designing
The team provide a full range of outdoor services, including tree surgery, hedge management, stump removal, fencing, commercial ground maintenance and larger, domestic gardening projects.
With their own inhouse landscape designer, Stephenson Trees and Landscapes Ltd can also take on or manage landscaping projects, from initial ideas through to design, implementation and completion.
Kevin said: “I couldn’t do it without the team I have built. They are all qualified and experienced staff, and we use high quality machinery to the latest industry standards.”
Honley’s ‘DIY SOS’
Kevin says for his team, no job is too small.
“We have landscaped gardens to help make outdoor areas more accessible for disabled children, and we have carried out on-call work when trees have fallen through houses on Christmas eve,” he said.
