Honley Business Association

HBA stronger together

I’m sure you’ve heard of Honley Business Association, or HBA as we’re also known, but you might not know exactly who we are, what we do and – if you’re a local business – how being a member can benefit you.

As our name suggests, we’re a collection of local businesses who work together to improve our village for the people who live and work here, and for those who visit.

With membership costing less than £2.50 per week (that’s cheaper than a posh coffee) you get a lot for money.

Helping local businesses shine

We provide opportunities for businesses to network with one another, and shout about their products and services both on- and offline.

Run by tireless volunteers, we also host some pretty big events, including the Christmas Light Switch-on and Christmas Street Market, which encourage people to visit our village and see what our businesses have to offer.

In fact, you’ll probably be pleasantly surprised about how much Honley Business Association does for local people as well as local businesses.

Did you know…HBA created this website?

It gives local businesses a professional online profile, with words written by a specialist copywriter and photos taken by expert photographers, who just happen to be local businesses too.

Yet, the website offers so much more than just a business listing. It really does do what it says on the tin. Honley.info intends to give browsers all the information they need to live, work and visit Honley.

By becoming the go-to place to find everything from ideas for walks and runs, to community book clubs, it will also be front of mind when someone needs their boiler fixing or help with their annual accounts.

Each business profile alone is valued at more than £500, yet membership of HBA is just £10 per month.

Did you know… HBA run Honley Community Facebook Group?

The popular, Honley Community Facebook Group has more than 6,000 members. It’s used by people who live, work and visit Honley to pass on news, information and recommendations, find lost pets and items and generally help one another.

Meanwhile the What’s Happening in Honley page keeps its 2,800+ followers updated with events and activities taking place in and around the village.

Then there’s the private Honley Business Association group where HBA members can network and pass on business related information.

HBA also runs the Twitter and Instagram feeds that are linked to this website.

Did you know… HBA run many village events?

HBA are the driving force behind the Christmas light switch-on. Months of work goes into arranging this community event which has grown in popularity year-on-year. As well as the official Christmas light switch-on, it’s also a celebration of our village with local food and drink on offer, brass bands and local musicians, and of course a visit from Santa.

When the Christmas street market became too big for founders, St Mary’s Church, HBA stepped in to help and support, allowing this popular event to continue. Attracting visitors from across the region, the street market has captured the heart of the village. Now both churches are involved and many shops enter into the Christmas spirit.

Did you know… HBA gives local people and businesses a voice?

In 2019, HBA partnered with Friends of Honley in the ‘ASK HONLEY’ survey, inviting local people to have their say on what they liked about Honley and what improvements they wanted to see.

It was information from this survey that led to the creation of Honley Youth, and there are plans for more community facilities for people young and old in the pipeline.

The actions and direction of HBA is decided by its members. At the Annual General Meeting, members are actively encouraged to add their voice and opinions to help create the annual business plan.

Did you know… HBA makes the village safer and brighter?

It was Honley Business Association that paid for the CCTV to be installed around the village, which makes residents and people feel safer.

If you ever need to request CCTV footage from Honley village, following an incident that involves you or your property, download this form and follow the instructions for completing and submitting your request.

We’re also responsible for making the village centre look good too. HBA organises the flags and hanging baskets that decorate the high street and are paid for by local businesses. Installation is coordinated by HBA secretary and volunteer, Philip Lofthouse of Stead Robinson Accountants.
