Honley Open Gardens
Every two years green fingered Honley residents open their garden gates to the public.
Usually shared with only family and friends, Honley Open Gardens provides the perfect opportunity for homeowners to showcase their gardening hard work during the two-day event.
Started in 2021, the success of the first Honley Open Gardens was enough to encourage organisers to make it a biennial event, meaning it is held every two years.
What to Expect
As part of the Open Gardens scheme, the event aims to bring people and communities together.
From colourful blooms to carefully crafted hedges and outdoor sculptures, the lovingly tended gardens always promise to provide a spectacular display.
Normally tucked away behind walls, hedges or fences, Honley Open Gardens allows gardening enthusiasts to offer tips and advice as they open their private outdoor spaces to the public.
From colourful scented blooms to the sound of rustling leaves, the summer event promises to delight our senses.
Who Can Get Involved
Organisers are always on the lookout for hidden gems in Honley. Entries are welcome from gardens of all shapes and sizes with a diversity of trees, hedges, flowers and plants.
Whether your garden is built into a cliff, surrounded by breath-taking views, mainly pots and containers or with a water feature running through it, it’s the diversity that counts.
Gardens can be within the village or on the outskirts of Honley.
A Community and Charity Event
All proceeds from Honley Open Gardens go to Friends Of Honley village initiative to improve our village for everyone who visits, lives and / or works in Honley.
You must have a wristband to enter the participating gardens. Some of the gardens provide musical entertainment and light refreshments and plants are often available to buy.
Parking is not possible at many of the gardens so visitors are advised to walk or cycle or to travel on one of the minibuses provided for the event. This also helps us to support Holme Valley Climate Action’s aim of making the Holme Valley carbon neutral by 2030.
We are looking for gardening enthusiasts who would like to join us in opening their gardens in 2025. It doesn’t have to be a ‘show’ garden, we are also looking for interesting stories about the people who have created them.
If you are potty about gardening and would like to enter your garden into Honley Open Garden Gardens 2025, please email Barry Kellington.
