Honley Male Voice Choir Go ‘The Extra Mile’ To Raise Funds For Mental Wellbeing
On Saturday 22 July 2023, members of Honley Male Voice Choir (Honley MVC) and Platform 1, Huddersfield took part in a sponsored 5-mile walk in the Holme Valley to raise funds for Platform 1, Huddersfield (charity no. 1177710) and Honley Male Voice Choir (charity number 1158453).
David Harrison (Chairman – Honley MVC) is quoted as saying – “We are delighted to confirm that due to the incredible generosity of our supporters, our July sponsored walk raised £3,409 which will be shared equally between Platform 1 and the Choir.
Singing is a pleasurable activity, which reduces stress and anxiety levels and contributes to positive mental wellbeing. The monies raised will enable the Choir to meet its overall charitable aims and objectives of extending its community involvement, thereby benefitting the wider local community.”
Gez Walsh (CEO – Platform 1) is quoted as saying – “The weather forecast for the day did not look promising, but it didn’t matter as the whole choir made us feel welcome and part of the group, even the weather was kind to us. The money raised will go to the delivery of our work, not only changing lives but in some cases saving lives. For a few of the choir the walk was difficult but on they walked, showing why we regard the whole choir a ‘Band of Brothers’.”
