Event Details
This create your own swimwear course runs over six weeks, with each class covering new skills and techniques.
If you wish to just take part in our “Introduction to the overlocker class” and/or “Sewing with Knit and Elastic class” you can buy separate tickets for classes individually, please see my profile page for this and other events.
The 6 week workshop itinerary –
07th May – Introduction to overlocker – learning how to use the overlocker machine.
14th May – Sewing with knit and elastic – experimenting with knit and elastic fabrics to achieve best working practices.
21st May – Measuring and cutting out , adding any style details.
28th May – One piece or two piece? – You will have decided by now and be cutting out in a gorgeous fabric of your choice.
04th June – Sewing and fitting – questions and help if needed.
11th June – The finale! – Finishing off, final tweaks and revealing your makes to the class!
By the end of this course you will have learnt the following –
• How to use the overlocker machine
• Experiment with knit and elastic fabrics to achieve the best working practices
• Navigate the patterns for stretch and knit garments.
• Have one to one bespoke guidance as you cut and sew swimwear pieces of your choice.
• Work through hacks and tips to produce styles for your individual taste.
• Spend time finishing and executing high quality makes for a stylish swim.
Notions –
• Scissors (I ve a pair of 8” and a pair of 10 ½’’) for fabric
• Scissors for paper and card• Snips / Embroidery scissors or both!
• Stitch unpicks • Set square / pattern master / long ruler
• Pencil (HB for me, but a lot of pattern cutting is done in 2H or 3H)
• Tailors chalk
• Pen
• Workbook / Notebook I guess you could use your phone or a device?
• Pattern notcher
• Lighter
• Tape measure
• Pins
• Thimble
I will have an array of equipment for people to use. I recommend building your own kit, as you can find what you like to use.
