Make it a memorable lockdown Valentine
The most romantic day of the year is almost here – and we’re all in lockdown!
This Valentine’s Day, there’ll be no nipping off to New York, dining in decadent restaurants or popping the question in Paris. Some of us might not even be in the same house, town or country as our loved one!
Pretty miserable, right?
Well, maybe not. While lockdown might have put a stop to Instagram-viral grand gestures, there’s no need to descend into complete gloom and doom.
Better still, if you live in Honley, you’ll find everything on your doorstep to make it a memorable lockdown Valentine.
The perfect Valentine gift and cards
First things first. With shops closed, how do you purchase that perfect Valentine gift? Or even a card? Well you could make do with a supermarket card and forecourt bunch of flowers… but you’re unlikely to win any brownie points and might even find yourself spending Valentine’s night in the shed.
Fear not, a trip into Honley village and you’ll be racking up enough brownie points to last the entire year (well at least until the following weekend).
You’ll discover gifts and cards galore at Zebra on Westgate. Go window shopping or check them out online.
“Although we’re closed, we are offering a ‘choose, call and collect’ service in line with Government guidelines. Once you’ve chosen what you want, call us on 01484 661007 and we’ll arrange payment and collection or postage. If you’re local, we might even be able to drop it off for you,” said June McLean, Zebra.
There are cards and gifts to suit all budgets. From soap and bath bomb gift sets to candles and personally designed jewellery, you’ll find something that’s perfect for that special person in your life. In fact, if you’re thinking of popping the question this Valentine’s (or any other time for that matter), Zebra can make an engagement ring to your unique design – in silver, gold, platinum or palladium. Imagine the brownie points you’d earn for that!
Hearts and flowers
Taylors Foodstore on Meltham Road, also has a range of quality handmade Valentine’s cards. Our very own ‘Arrods of Honley are also taking orders for Valentine’s bouquets. As you’d expect from Taylors, these are stunning, professional arrangements featuring specially selected flowers and long-stem roses. You can even add a box of luxury French chocolates or a bottle of bubbly, without leaving the store.
Talking of food and drink there are 2 ways you can turn your lockdown Valentine’s into an unforgettable evening.
For those MasterChef fans, it’s a chance to don your apron and show off your culinary skills by creating a gourmet dinner for your loved one. While you’re in Taylors, you can pick up all the ingredients you need to create a dish that would make even Gordon Ramsey smile. With an array of wines on offer too – red, white, rose or Champagne – you can select the perfect accompaniment to add the finishing touches to your epicurean creation.
Delicious dining at home
If your idea of fine dining is decanting a ready meal on to a paper plate, there are still ways you can impress your Valentine, despite lockdown.
Punch on Westgate is taking orders for their Valentine ‘heat at home’ takeaway.
Their sharing meal for two (what else would it be on Valentine’s Day?) can be ordered through their website and collected between 1-3pm on Sunday 14 February. Their truly tempting menu includes a selection of starters and desserts to share with a choice of main course for £30 per person.
If you were hoping to cancel Valentine’s Day this year – bad luck. Thanks to Honley businesses, you can make this a lockdown Valentine’s to remember. And who knows what you might get when you cash in those well-earned brownie points!
Happy Valentine’s Day to you all x
