Opticians’ 10th Anniversary Charity Walk Paves the Way for Fundraising for the Visually Impaired

Join Valli Rally as it returns for its 10-year anniversary on Saturday, September 23, 2023, to raise funds for the visually impaired.

Valli Optometry and Audiology will host the seven-mile walk between three of its branches – including Honley’s – to raise money for Kirklees charity Outlookers.

Organisers are hoping to raise £8,500 through sponsorship and the generous support of sponsors Hoya and Optegra.

Walk for a Cause

Valli Rally will start and finish at the Meltham branch and is suitable for families and dogs.

Moin Valli, Managing Director of Valli Optometry and Audiology and Vice-Chair of Outlookers, said: “Valli Rally is one of our most important events of the year and is always well attended.

“Whether you enter your whole family, join up individually, or want to enter a team from your workplace, we can guarantee fun and a great sense of camaraderie along the route.”

Established in 2008, Outlookers, formerly known as Kirklees Visual Impairment Network (KVIN), provides essential support services for individuals living with visual impairments.

The member-driven organisation offers emotional support and friendship, as well as training, and helps people with visual impairments learn how to confidently use and make the most of technology.

Mark Owen, CEO of Outlookers, said: “The Valli Rally is our largest annual fundraising event, offering a great opportunity to explore the Kirklees countryside while supporting the local sight loss charity.”

David Quarmby, Outlookers Founder and Chair of Trustees, explained: “Funds raised from the Valli Rally help us to stay updated with developing technology that benefits blind and partially sighted individuals, enabling them to lead more independent lives.”

Generous Contributions Result in Thousands Raised

Last year’s Valli Rally attracted more than 100 people and raised over £8,000 for Outlookers.

Organisers hope this year’s fundraiser will attract more individuals and businesses to sign up for the walk and support the event.

Anyone taking part should meet at Valli Optometry and Audiology in Meltham at 9:30am, for a 10am start. Walkers will reach the Netherton branch around 11am and Honley at approximately noon, before returning to Meltham at 2:30pm for a well-deserved refreshment break.
