Opening up with Open Gardens

Honley Open Gardens:
Fingers crossed that the lockdown restrictions will continue to ease (we’re certainly doing our bit to help thanks to the amazing, volunteer-run, Village Hall vaccination centre) as we’ve a programme of family events planned for this summer.
On Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 July, green-fingered homeowners in our village will throw open their garden gates to visitors in our Open Gardens event.
It’s part of the Open Gardens scheme, which aims to bring people and communities together. Organiser, Barry Kellington, explains:
“The focus is firmly on fun and giving people the opportunity to discover more about our beautiful village and the stunning gardens that are usually hidden from view. It’s a chance for homeowners to show off their hard work too. Open Gardens is also a great way to bring people together and start new conversations.”
What is Honley Open Gardens?
Around 14 homeowners are opening their gardens for visitors to wander around and take inspiration from. Some of the gardens will be providing refreshments and there will be plant sales at others.
You’ll be provided with a map of the village indicating all participating gardens. In your own time, you can wander around the village and enjoy the gardens, which are all different sizes, shapes and contain a diversity of flowers and plants.
How to get involved
To take part, you’ll need to purchase a wristband, which are available for £6 from Zebra, Belong, Taylors Foodstore, Café Loom, and Chain Reaxtions. Alternatively, you can buy tickets online, which can be exchanged for a wristband on the day from the stand outside Honley Library. Wristbands will also be available from participating gardens on the day.
All proceeds from the Open Gardens will go to Friends of Honley village initiatives to improve our village for everyone who visits, lives and works in Honley.
Please note that access is permitted to only participating gardens and you must have a wristband to enter.

If all goes to plan with the roadmap out of lockdown there will be plenty of Honley events for you enjoy this summer, from cricket matches to car rallies.
The first major event on the calendar is the Yorkshire Motor Festival. From 24 – 27 June car enthusiasts from around the country will descend on Honley for 4 days of family fun. Find out more about the Yorkshire Car Festival and how to get involved.
